Direct particle coating formulation to mask disadvantageous API properties to add some value on formulation

Background

API physical properties often become key restrictions to make solid formulation. For the wet particle coating process, direct particulate coating has the following advantages.

• Low manufacturing cost
• Stabilization of drug product for water / heat-sensitive API
• High drug loading formulation / Downsizing tablets
• Odor / Taste masking

Direct particle coating technology

In the dry condition without solvent, by addition of large energy as such impact or share force, small particles cover the surface of a large particle (Ordered mixture). By further addition of the force, small particles fuse on the large particle (Mechanofusion).

Formulation using this technology was successfully developed, and applied to clinical trial materials of a compound in development stage.
